Randwick For Kids

School Holidays Guide

If you're in Sydney's eastern suburbs, Randwick offers plenty of activities to keep children of all ages entertained throughout the school holidays.

1. Inglis Park Playground

The Inglis Park Playground is one of Randwick's hidden gems. Tucked behind Newmarket, the playground has a twin spiral slide that's shaped like a double helix, as well as suspended climbing nets and in-ground carousels. There's a good balance between equipment for the younger kids and older thrillseekers.

There are plenty of shady spots to sit and have a picnic lunch and for the grown ups, there's great coffee at Cafe McKenzie and Cali Press right next door.

2. Ritz Cinemas

Catching a movie at the Ritz is a school holidays tradition for many families. Ritz Cinemas has a reputation for showing a mix of new releases and classics, and often brings in the best international children's films too. Keep an eye on the website for the latest school holiday specials, events and festivals.

3. Gelato!

Randwick has some of the best sweet treats around, with Gelato Messina at Newmarket and Gaia Gelato and Elisa Gelato at The Spot.

4. Learn something new

Keep an eye on Randwick City Council's What's On calendar for free or low cost workshops and outdoor activities around the wider area. There are often great creative & technology sessions at the Lionel Bowen Library in Maroubra, including many for older kids and teens. Depending on the season, the council sometimes offers outdoor activities along the coastline, including rockpool wanders and kayaking lessons.

Out local's tip is subscribing to the Randwick News to be the first to hear when the program is announced. The Randwick City Council school holiday program is very popular and sessions can book quickly.

6. Visit Centennial Parklands

Centennial Parklands is right next door. Take the kids down to the scooter and bike track, visit the swans, walk a lap, or let them run free in Wild Play. The park also offers organised activities during school holidays, including guided tours, bird watching expeditions, and bush skills workshops.
